DSS Consultant

Hours: Minimum of 15 Hours per Week

The primary role of the DSS Consultant is to work one-on-one with small businesses and deliver the services offered by the program which includes on-boarding assistance, advisory services, activation and implementation services. By providing hands-on assistance in the use of various online tools, the DSS Consultant will work with multiple businesses to achieve their individual goals and objectives for enhancing their digital presence. This position will have access to the DSS Trainer and Quality Advisor for guidance and additional assistance. 

  • Working one-on-one with business clients to analyze their needs and implement any changes or activate essential business tools, including (but not limited to): Google My Business, social media accounts, e-commerce profiles, digital advertisements, websites, and email marketing.

  • Providing guidance, resources, and recommendations to businesses on how they can enhance and progress their digital profile. 

  • Managing the communication of multiple ongoing businesses at a time. 

  • Updating progress reports on a consistent basis. 

  • Working collaboratively with other DSS Consultants and team members 

  • Administering the Client Feedback Survey to business participants.

  • Performing all reporting tasks required, such as completing notes and submitting reports regularly and on time, as required by the Team Lead, Executive Director, and Program Managers.

  • Must be a current University of Alberta student through Winter Term 2022 (or longer).

  • Digitally savvy.

  • Quick learner. Ability to self-teach various digital skills (Website Building, Simple Graphic Design Content, Search Engine Optimization, etc.)

  • Having a passion for helping small businesses around the province. 

  • Strong communications skills (written and verbal).

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building/relationship management skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Be familiar with digital technologies for small businesses (e.g.: web, social media, e-commerce, etc.)

  • Eventually, be able to travel and work independently.

  • Be able to use basic software and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Slack.

  • Having experience in a sales role and/or marketing environment is considered an asset.

  • Previous experience with online and offline marketing is considered a strong asset.

  • Previous experience working with small businesses is considered an asset.
